Preconstruction estimating
Conceptual through bid-level cost estimates for civil and site development scopes: earthwork, utilities, stormwater, paving, and erosion and sediment control, built to be defended, not just presented.
Civil and Sitework Advisory
I get the design and the site into alignment before the gap becomes a cost.

About Me
I've been playing in the dirt for more than 20 years, and I still go looking for the site that surprises me.
Sitework is the one part of a project that answers to no one. The building gets drawn and built to spec. The dirt underneath was never consulted. It has its own water, its own history, its own strata, and its own opinion about what it will and won't do.
I came up pricing real work on real sites, watching where the numbers held and where they didn't. It taught me that a site cost is never one number in a cell. It's the design, the ground, the build, and the market, and they have to agree before the number holds.
I write about this in Design Cost Data and Estimating Today, and I make the case from the podium at industry conferences. I also wrote the excavation chapter for a peer-reviewed paper on estimating on the Moon. The point was not the Moon. It was to find out whether the way I read a site on Earth would still hold when nearly every site assumption fell away. It did.
I built Sitework Estimating Services doing this the long way, one site at a time. I see the cost of a decision before it is made. If your ground is complicated, we should talk.

What I Do
Conceptual through bid-level cost estimates for civil and site development scopes: earthwork, utilities, stormwater, paving, and erosion and sediment control, built to be defended, not just presented.
Cut and fill balance, import and export exposure, unsuitable materials, dewatering, and the geotechnical realities that quietly decide project cost long before anyone prices a pipe.
Independent review of value engineering and design decisions against site conditions and market pricing, because a savings on paper can be an import bill in the field.
Writing
Essays and articles in Estimating Today and Design Cost Data - plus a forthcoming peer-reviewed paper on estimating excavation costs on the Moon.
On the gap between what erosion and sediment control is supposed to do and what the industry's practices actually accomplish, written from twenty years inside the numbers.
Design Cost Data · 2026
Read article“We protect streams, but in doing so we simultaneously create landfill waste. Is this the version of environmental progress we're prepared to accept? ”
Speaking
Presentations for estimators, engineers, and owners on earthwork cost risk, stormwater economics, and erosion and sediment control.
NJ ASPE · 2024
Four functionally equivalent detention systems, a nearly three-to-one cost spread, and the site conditions that flip which one wins.
